The Key Skills
The 6 Key Skills underpin everything we do at Inspire Learning. Pupils are first introduced to these skills through their Whole School Assembly resource, which is included as part of the package. During this learning session, children begin to discover which types of skills are needed for different careers and start to gain inspiration for how they could work towards achieving their own future career goals.
They then explore the skills in greater depth through their pre-learning lessons, which take place before the careers fair. These lessons are also provided by Inspire Learning and give pupils the opportunity to explicitly learn what each skill involves and how they can demonstrate and develop these skills in their daily lives - both in and out of school, as well as in their future careers.
During the careers fair, pupils are also provided with worksheets containing challenges linked to the 6 Key Skills. For example: “Can you find someone in the room who uses Creativity in their career? How do they use it?” These activities keep children engaged and active throughout their time at the careers fair, while encouraging them to speak to a wide range of volunteers and discover how the skills are used in different careers. Pupils thoroughly enjoy completing and ticking off the challenges as they make their way around the fair.
Once they have developed a strong understanding of the skills, pupils have the opportunity to explore them further during the careers fair. Volunteers are briefed in advance on how to incorporate the 6 Key Skills into their conversations with pupils. They are also provided with a range of supportive resources and printouts for their tables, helping to encourage meaningful discussions and deeper exploration of the careers being showcased.
Each learning resource provided to the school is differentiated by age and split into the following key stages: EYFS, KS1, LKS2 and UKS2.
